Review: Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce

Once upon a time, two little girls, Scarlett, 11 and Rosie, 9, lived with their grandmother in Ellison, GA. They had a happy childhood, until one day the big bad wolf showed up and turned their lives around.
Fast forward seven years. Scarlett, scarred and missing an eye from that fateful day years ago has dedicated her life to hunting and killing the Fenris, or werewolves, the creatures responsible for changing her life. Along with Rosie, and neighbor Silas, the woodsman's son, they try to keep the Fenris from killing young women.

When the number of wolves in the area seems to be going up, the three hunters head to Atlanta where the largest group of wolves has congregated to find out why.
As the reason comes to light, and time is of the essence, Rosie starts to have second thoughts about devoting her life to hunting. She wants to see what else life has to offer, but is torn. She doesn't want to turn her back on her sister, who sacrificed so much for her, but at the same time, she doesn't feel like she can go on the way she has.

When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. Scarlett was so one minded, that I thought it was going to get old. But then I looked at Scarlett deeper. I looked at what was driving her, and started to empathize with her, and the book took on a whole new life. She is a strong female character, but she is driven by desperation to do what she thinks is the right thing to do. It is the only thing that makes her feel, and the only thing that keeps her moving. I almost wanted to feel sorry for her.
I like the double points of view in this book. Looking at things from both Scarlett's and Rosie's eyes helps the reader to understand why they are doing the things they do, how they feel about what is going on.
I give this book 4 to 4 1/2 stars.
